What it is

The Festival runs Tuesday 16 to Friday 19 March 2027: twenty-eight races, a Championship event each day, and the Gold Cup itself on the Friday. Sixty-eight thousand a day pack Prestbury Park and the Irish-versus-British subplot gives the whole week a Ryder Cup edge. The Cheltenham Roar before the opening race is one of British sport's genuine spine-tingle moments — be inside the course, not queueing, at 1.20pm Tuesday.

Seat — tickets

Buy badges through the Jockey Club's official channels — they are reasonably priced, sell steadily rather than instantly, and Tuesday to Thursday are usually available well into the new year. Gold Cup Friday is the exception: it sells out first and is the only day with a meaningful resale premium. Racing carries none of football's resale restrictions, but there is rarely a reason to pay above face for the first three days. Club badges are worth the step up on Gold Cup day specifically; Best Mate enclosure is the value on any other day.

Price watch

Gold Cup Friday sells out months ahead and resells at a premium; Tuesday–Thursday badges hold near face on official channels until late — no reason to buy those on resale.

Compare before you buy: the same seats are routinely 10-20% apart between marketplaces once checkout fees land. Check all three:

StubHub

Best for: US events — deepest inventory for Vegas, NFL and arena fights

Fees added at checkout (~20-30%) — compare final price, not listing price

viagogo

Best for: UK & European events, GBP pricing

Fees added at checkout (~25-30%) — always compare the all-in total

Sports Events 365

Best for: International sports specialist — often has allocations others don't

Prices shown are closer to all-in; good benchmark for the other two

Stay — where to sleep

Value (Gloucester / Tewkesbury)

Chain hotels in Gloucester

Fifteen minutes away by train or cab and routinely a third of Cheltenham's Festival-week rates. The post-racing party is in Cheltenham, but the sleep is cheaper here.

In town

Cheltenham town B&Bs and Montpellier boutiques

Walk to the course, stumble back from the Promenade afterwards. The town's entire stock books out nearly a year ahead for Gold Cup week — commit early or pay triple.

At the course

Ellenborough Park

The country-house option that borders the racecourse itself — you can walk in through the back. The Festival's power-lunch hotel, priced like it.

Make a trip of it

Budget the betting bank separately from the trip budget and decide it before the first pint on the Promenade. Book Festival-week dinner tables in town when you book the badges, not when you arrive.
