What it is
The Knicks and Rangers share the Garden through the winter, which means that for most of a New York trip between October and April there is something on. The building sits directly above Penn Station, so the subway, LIRR, NJ Transit and Amtrak all deliver you underneath your seat — there is no version of this trip that needs a taxi.
Seat — tickets
Marquee games are priced brutally and stay that way. The value is in non-marquee weeknight fixtures, which dip below face on resale on the day of the game with real reliability — a Tuesday night Rangers game against a non-rival is one of the cheapest ways into a world-famous building. US resale is fully legal. If you are combining with a fight or a wrestling show, note that those carry a history premium at MSG and should be bought early.

Stay — where to sleep
Moxy NYC Chelsea or Stewart Hotel
5 minutes' walk, fair Midtown rates, easy late exits after fights.
Koreatown hotels (31st–36th St)
One block east: late-night food that beats anything by the arena, and you hear the crowd from your window.
Lower Midtown / NoMad
10–15 min walk, nicer neighbourhood, weekend rates often beat the Penn District.
Go — getting there
- It's above Penn Station: LIRR, NJ Transit, Amtrak and the A/C/E and 1/2/3 subway lines deliver you literally underneath your seat.
- From UK flights: JFK → LIRR from Jamaica to Penn (35 min) or Newark → NJ Transit straight to Penn (30 min). No taxi needed, ever.
- Walkable from most of Midtown — if your hotel is south of Central Park you likely don't need transit at all.
Make a trip of it
